Apple has introduced a new tool designed to make it easier to transfer photos and videos from iCloud to Google Photos and some other popular image storage applications.
A new Apple support document has been added to offer users more flexibility over where they store their photos, and thanks to direct integrations with some key photo apps, Apple has taken the stress and frustration out of transferring a lot of content in one go.
Users can visit the Apple Privacy website and sign in using their Apple ID, and they’ll then be able to click on a “Transfer a copy of your data” button. Once this has been selected and users follow the steps, iCloud photos and videos will be transferred to Google Photos.
It’s important to note that transferring data does not delete it from iCloud – simply, it will offer a back-up on Google Photos and allow you to store an additional copy. What’s more, the process can take anywhere from three to seven days, which is much slower than downloading your photos via the Photos app for macOS, though it’s more secure and takes the strain off your internet connection and computer. Instead, Apple will alert you when it’s done.
The following formats are compatible: .jpg, .png, .webp, .gif, some RAW files, .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv.
