Apple has introduced a pair of entry-level Beats earphones for less than $50.

The company launched Beats Flex alongside the announcement of the iPhone 12, mini, Pro, and Pro Max, presumably to offer an alternative to AirPods now Apple has removed the free EarPods and charging block from its iPhone packaging to reduce its environmental waste.

Similar to BeatsX, the new Beats Flex product is wireless and features a cord between the two earpieces, designed to offer a safer and more straightforward earphone experience for users on the go.

One of the biggest criticisms of AirPods is the fact that they could be lost.

Apple will launch Beats Flex in Black and Yuzu Yellow, whilst Smoke Gray and Flame Blue will be available from early 2021, perhaps due to supply chain issues amidst the pandemic.

Despite the price tag, Beats Flex feature impressive internals, including a proprietary layered driver with dual-chamber acoustics, which enables rich and balanced sound. Apple has also used laser-cut micro-venting and an optimized driver angle to ensure ear pressure relief as well as improved accurate sound delivery, whilst a digital processor fine-tunes audio to deliver accurate bass, precise mids, and low distortion, making them ideal for music lovers.

Beats Flex feature automatic play and pause support, similar to AirPods, and they come with four sizes of ear tips to offer a personalized and comfortable fit. Beats Flex also feature Apple’s W1 chip, meaning they can quickly be paired with iOS devices, synced over iCloud to seamlessly switch from one device to another, and Audio Sharing is available to boot.

Apple says its Flex headphones offer around 12 hours of listening time, and they recharge using a USB-C cable. The Flex headphones also offer a 10-minute Fast Fuel charge mode.
