Apple Music Explores Importing Libraries from Competing Streaming Services

Apple music

The latest beta version of Apple Music for Android has revealed references to this innovative feature, initially spotted by an observant Reddit user. The discovery has since been independently verified, indicating that the Android Package Kit (APK) indeed contains these references.

This development suggests Apple is working to simplify the process for users to transfer their curated playlists and favorite songs from rival services into Apple Music, thereby enhancing user experience and convenience.

The integration appears to be in collaboration with SongShift, a renowned third-party service that facilitates the transfer of music libraries and playlists across various streaming platforms.

Screenshots shared by users on Reddit highlight new prompts within the Apple Music app for Android, suggesting the option to “add saved music and playlists you made in other music services to your Apple Music library.” This feature is also found within the app’s settings, although it doesn’t seem to be fully operational for all beta testers at this stage.

Currently, the functionality is undergoing A/B testing, a common practice in app development where two versions of an app are compared to determine which one performs better based on specific goals.

This testing phase indicates that Apple is still in the early stages of evaluating the feature’s viability and effectiveness among a subset of users.

While third-party music transfer services have been available for some time, they often come with limitations unless users opt for a paid subscription or make a one-time payment.

The potential full integration of a service like SongShift into Apple Music could provide a more streamlined and user-friendly approach to consolidating music libraries from various sources, free of the constraints typically associated with third-party solutions.

Although there is no confirmation that Apple will proceed with fully developing this feature for Apple Music, its successful implementation could lead to its availability on Apple devices, offering users a more cohesive and integrated music listening experience across different streaming platforms.
