Apple Music Installed on 40 Million Android Devices as Chromebook Support Announced

Apple Music continues to grow in popularity, today hitting 40 million downloads on the Google Play Store, cementing the app as one of Android’s most popular.

According to data from Sensor Tower, more than 40 million Android smartphones and tablets have installed the Apple Music app, suggesting major growth on Android.

It’s expected that Apple Music will add another 3.8 million installs on Android devices in the first quarter of 2109, up from 3.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Users of the Android app were up 43% on Quarter 4 from Quarter 1 in 2018, and a year-over-year increase of 65% is expected when comparing Q1 2019 to Q1 2018.

Sensor Tower suggests that Google Play users in the US make up approximately 28% of all Apple Music for Android installs, with India in second place at a 7% share.

The United Kingdom has a 6% share, Brazil 5% and Russia 4%.

The Apple Music app first joined Android back in 2015. Today, the app was updated with a new Browse tab, which now matches the iOS user interface. Apple Music now supports Chromebooks, further increasing the appeal of the service.

The company has made some major forrays into services recently, yesterday announcing a news subscription service, television subscription service, and gaming subscription service to increase revenues and reduce reliance on falling iPhone sales.
