TIME has included Apple on its list of the top 100 Most Influential Companies for 2022.

TIME has said that its yearly list of influential firms “highlights businesses making an extraordinary impact around the world”. Nominations are sought for companies active in various sectors from its international network of editors and correspondents, as well as industry experts.

Each firm is included after consideration of such factors as relevance, impact, innovation, leadership, ambition, and success. The result is the creation of a list of companies that TIME has said are “helping chart an essential path forward.”

However, in its profile of Apple for the list, TIME did not sound greatly complimentary of the Cupertino company. The text stated that while Apple took the “momentous step” during 2021 of permitting users to block advertisers from tracking their app use for ad targeting purposes, tech giants that depended on ads – such as Meta and Snap – blamed Apple’s decision for “headwinds” that brought about losses running in the tens of billions of dollars.

The profile said that many anti-surveillance activists approved of the policy, but “others noted that it underlined Apple’s huge power.”

Mention was also made by TIME of Apple’s plans to allow suitably capable iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 users to access Apple parts and tools in order to carry out their own repairs on their devices. The Apple Self Service Repair program is expected to debut very soon.
