As FIFA plans to introduce a new format for the Club World Cup in 2025, featuring 32 teams from all six soccer confederations, Apple has shown significant interest in broadcasting the tournament. This potential partnership could significantly enhance Apple’s sports broadcasting portfolio, complementing its existing $2.5 billion agreement for Major League Soccer rights.

The negotiations, which may conclude with an announcement later this month, involve a substantial financial commitment from Apple, possibly nearing $1 billion.

The inaugural tournament of the revamped Club World Cup is scheduled to occur in the United States next summer, highlighting the strategic importance of this agreement for Apple. This deal could potentially make the entire tournament available exclusively to Apple TV+ subscribers, although it remains unclear whether any games will be broadcast free-to-air.

Apple’s investment in sports content is part of a broader strategy to attract and retain subscribers to its Apple TV+ service. Beyond soccer, Apple has secured streaming rights for Major League Baseball and has shown interest in NFL and NBA broadcasting rights.

Furthermore, the company has recently launched the Apple Sports app, which integrates with the Apple TV app to provide users with real-time scores and statistics, enhancing the overall sports viewing experience on its platform.
