Reports suggest Barack Obama is about to complete a content deal with Netflix, but now Apple are also interested in working with the former President.
The report also includes the former first lady and suggests the pair are in “advanced negotiations” with Netflix. They are looking to produce a series of “high-profile shows” and both Apple and Amazon are also interested in working with them. The New York Times reports that Netflix is willing to pay Barack and Michelle Obama to produce exclusive content for them.
“Under terms of a proposed deal, which is not yet final, Netflix would pay Mr. Obama and his wife, Michelle, for exclusive content that would be available only on the streaming service, which has nearly 118 million subscribers around the world. The number of episodes and the formats for the shows have not been decided.”
Exactly what the show will include remains unknown. Some speculate the show could include Obama’s views on health care, climate change and immigration, however, it is unlikely the show will be a direct rebuttal to political opponents. Other rumors suggest the first lady will talk about issues like healthy nutrition and other causes for which she advocated during Obama’s presidency.
However, Apple’s chances could be slim, due to Obama’s connections with Netflix. Obama’s ambassador to the Bahamas from 2009 to 2011, Nicole A. Avant is married to Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer. That’s not all, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings was also close to Obama during his presidency. He even attended state dinners occasionally.
No matter which platform the Obama’s choose it is likely they will be given their own platform to talk about key topics.
