Apple has unveiled a new generation of the AirTag — the bestselling item finder that helps users keep track of everyday essentials like keys, wallets, luggage, and more. The refreshed AirTag introduces expanded Bluetooth range, 50 % farther Precision Finding, and a louder speaker that can be heard up to twice as far as before, all while maintaining strong privacy protections and environmental responsibility.
Since its original launch in 2021, AirTag has become a trusted tool for locating lost items quickly, thanks to Apple’s expansive Find My network and Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology that delivers highly accurate direction and distance guidance. The new AirTag builds on this foundation with hardware upgrades including Apple’s updated second-generation UWB chip — the same technology family used in the latest iPhone and Apple Watch models — giving users even more confidence when tracking important belongings.
Enhanced Precision Finding and Extended Range
The most notable improvements in the new AirTag are its enhanced Precision Finding and expanded Bluetooth range. Precision Finding uses UWB, haptics, visual cues, and sound to guide you directly to your AirTag when nearby. With the latest chip, this feature now works from up to 50 % farther away than the previous generation, making it easier to navigate toward the exact location of a misplaced item inside crowded spaces or across a yard.
Bluetooth connectivity has also been upgraded to extend the device’s findable range beyond what earlier AirTags offered. If an item is out of direct Bluetooth reach, the Find My network — made up of hundreds of millions of Apple devices — can still help locate it by securely and anonymously reporting its approximate position back to you. For the first time, Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later can participate in Precision Finding for AirTags from the wrist, adding another convenient way to track items while on the go.
Louder Alerts and Distinctive Feedback
One of the everyday frustrations with small trackers has been hearing the alert sound from a distance. Apple has addressed this with a speaker that is 50 % louder than the previous generation, enabling you to hear the chime from nearly twice as far away. Coupled with enhanced visual and haptic feedback from compatible iPhones and Apple Watches, the new AirTag offers a more responsive and satisfying experience when finding an item nearby.
This makes locating objects tucked under furniture, buried in bags, or left in busy spaces significantly easier.
Share Item Location Helps in Real Recovery Scenarios
AirTag now works seamlessly with Share Item Location in iOS, which lets you securely and temporarily share a lost item’s location with trusted third parties — such as airline staff when luggage goes missing or a friend helping search for a shared item. Apple partners with more than 50 global airlines to integrate these links into carrier systems, helping reduce baggage delays and recover lost items more reliably.
This feature expands the utility of AirTag beyond personal tracking to real-world scenarios where many hands and systems work together to bring an item home.
Designed for Privacy and the Environment
Like its predecessor, the new AirTag prioritizes privacy and security. Location data never stores on the AirTag itself, and all communication with the Find My network is end-to-end encrypted, so only the owner can see location information. Apple also continues its environmental commitments, building the tracker from high percentages of recycled materials and using packaging that is fully fiber-based and recyclable.
AirTag accessories like the FineWoven Key Ring remain compatible with the new model, offering users style alongside utility.
Pricing and Compatibility
The new AirTag is available through apple.com and the Apple Store app starting today, with prices matching the previous generation: $29 (U.S.) for a single unit and $99 (U.S.) for a four-pack. To use the new AirTag, you need an iPhone with iOS 26 or later or an iPad with iPadOS 26 or later, and Find My enabled. Precision Finding on Apple Watch requires watchOS 26.2.1 or later on Series 9 or Ultra 2 devices.
