Every year Apple offers free WWDC scholarships to students and STEM organization members that are financially unable to purchase a ticket to the developer conference. This year is no different and the chance to send in your application is officially open.
Apple plans to reward up to 350 scholarships, which will include a free ticket to the WWDC, free accommodation and one year’s Apple Developer membership.
To apply, you must be at least 13 years old and you can use the WWDC scholarship website to submit your application. This year, Apple is asking applicants to create an interactive scene in Swift playground that you can experience within three minutes.
As always, Apple recommends that applicants be as creative as possible with their submissions and all entries will be judged based on technical accomplishment, creativity of ideas, and the content of written responses on the accompanying application.
All entries must be individually created and open source software is permitted but this must be stated on the application form. Swift playground must be built using Swift Playgrounds on iPad or Xcode on macOS. A full list of the rules can be found here.
Apple will be accepting scholarship applications through Sunday, April 1 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time, and winners will be notified on Friday, April 20.
This year’s WWDC is set to kick off on Monday June 4 and last until Friday June 8. Scholarship students who aren’t successful in their application can still tune in to the conference via the designated app.
Good luck!
