The amount of free iCloud storage that Apple offers has been a long time complaint for many users but now the company is taking a step in the right direction by offering one month of their new tier for free when they upgrade from 5GB.
This free trial option will now appear when a user attempts to back up their iOS device to the iCloud but doesn’t have enough storage space to do so. It promotes an upgrade to 50GB but the free trial applies to 200GB and 2TB tiers too.
After your one month free trial, your plan will renew at its normal rate. The 50GB costs $0.99 per month, while the 200GB and 2TB plans cost $2.99 and $9.99 per month, respectively.
If you’re already on a paid iCloud tier you won’t be eligible for a free trial, even if you wish to upgrade to a higher storage plan.
Many users have called on Apple to increase the amount of iCloud storage it offers but the company has focused on its tier pricing options instead. Last year, it replaced 1TB tier with 2TB but kept the price the same. There was also support added for sharing 200GB and the 2TB Family Sharing plans. Apple also increased the amount of free storage offered to schools to 200GB.Ā
