Apple is to offer store credit to users wishing to trade in their Android phones. The decision marks the first time its Reuse and Recycle trade-in program has been extended to include handsets made by other companies. Android users will now be able to receive money for their old handset to put towards an iPhone.
The company is giving consumers the chance to obtain in-store or online credit after trading in their phones. Their old devices must be free of water damage and be able to power on. If do have water damage or can’t be switched on, the company will offer to recycle them for free. Apple is accepting certain handsets made by Sony, LG, Samsung, Nokia, HTC and BlackBerry, with some devices running on Windows or BlackBerry’s own operating system being welcomed alongside Android-powered phones.
If users do want to trade their smartphones in in-store, Apple team members will make the transition a smooth one by setting up their new device and transferring contacts. The programme is open to users in the US, Canada and Europe. Some users have complained about the amount of credit they have been offered for their old handsets.
