Apple officially announces AirPods Pro 2 at Far Out event

AirPods Pro 2 USB-C firmware update enhances audio quality, device switching, and charging efficiency.

Apple AirPods Pro 2nd Generation

Apple has announced the second generation AirPods Pro at its Far Out event.

Alongside new iPhones and Apple Watches, the popular earphones have been given a refresh, though retain the same design as the first generation. Apple has added a new H2 chip, which “unlocks breakthrough audio performance — including major upgrades to Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode” for the first time.

The new AirPods Pro also offer “a unique way to experience Spatial Audio” using the TrueDepth camera on iPhone to “create a personal profile for Spatial Audio that delivers a listening experience precisely tuned just for them.”

Apple has also added touch control for media playback and volume adjustments from the stem of the AirPods Pro, and the earphones feature a 1.5-hour longer battery life, a charging case with improved Find My integration, and an additional ear tip size for a better fit.

Speaking of the new product, Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, said: “AirPods revolutionized the wireless headphone category with an innovative design and incredible sound quality. With the new AirPods Pro, Apple raises the bar once again.”

“The new AirPods Pro deliver even better sound quality, a more immersive listening experience with Personalized Spatial Audio, and transformative audio features like Adaptive Transparency. With up to double the noise-canceling power of their predecessor, the world’s bestselling wireless headphones got even better.”

Users can order the new AirPods from September 9, with the device on sale from September 23.
