Apple Pay Expands in Australia as ANZ Bank Adds Support

The availability of the digital wallet Apple Pay has expanded in Australia, with one of the country’s major financial institutions, ANZ Bank, joining American Express in supporting the payments service.

This means that ANZ Bank card holders who wish to more speedily pay for goods, both online and at bricks and mortar stores, through compatible Apple devices can now do so by setting up their cards with Wallet on iOS. Apple Pay first arrived in the Oceania country in November.

Apple Pay vice president Jennifer Bailey told Reuters that “our customers … are much closer to being able to leave their wallets at home”, adding that Apple is continuing talks with other banks in the hope of further expanding Apple Pay’s availability Down Under.

Apple has updated its Australian website to indicate the freshly broadened reach of Apple Pay. Compatibility with MasterCard cards is listed as “coming soon”.
