Apple Pay Launches in Russia with Sberbank and MasterCard

Today, Russia became the tenth territory globally to get the payment service Apple Pay, which is now available for MasterCard card holders registered with the Moscow-based Sberbank.

Apple Pay’s arrival in Russia was announced by Reuters and Apple’s Russian website. According to the latter, retailers with which Apple Pay purchases can be made in Russia include ATAK, Auchan, Azbuka Vkusa, bp, M.Video, Magnit, Media Markt, TsUM and the authorized Apple reseller re:Store. Eldorado and Burger King will also accept Apple Pay payments at a later point.

Sberbank says that its Sberbank Online mobile app can be used to easily set up Apple Pay for compatible devices allowing in-store payments. Those devices are the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, SE, 7 and 7 Plus and all versions of the Apple Watch.

While the iPad Pro, Air 2, Mini 3 and Mini 4 allow Apple Pay purchases to be made in apps and Macs support web-based purchases, MacRumors says that it remains unclear when Russian apps and websites will integrate Apple Pay functionality.

As well as Russia, Apple Pay is available in the United States, United Kingdom, China, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Hong Kong, France and Singapore.
