Along with evidence that Apple Pay will go live in China this Thursday, there has today been a report implying that the mobile payment service could arrive in France in just months.
The French website iGeneration reports an unidentified source claiming that Apple could, at some point in the first half of 2016, announce Apple Pay’s expansion to the Gallic country. Apple’s Worldwide Developers’ Conference, likely to be held in June, is cited as a probable outlet for the announcement.
Apparently, several banks and other payment card companies will be on board for the French launch – meaning that Apple Pay should get a much broader roll-out in the country than it has had in Australia and Canada, where the service is limited to American Express customers.
iGeneration does, however, express uncertainty about when exactly Apple Pay will become available in shops in France. Last year, Apple’s announcement of Apple Pay’s expansion to the United Kingdom came in June, just a month before the service went live in that country.
