Apple planning new sleep tracking, blood pressure tech for future Apple Watch

Apple is reportedly planning to introduce a number of new features to its Apple Watch.

The Cupertino company is reportedly struggling with production for this year’s Series 7 release, leaving some to ask whether Apple could delay the launch to iron out issues.

However, a new report from the Wall Street Journal suggests that Apple has an exciting roadmap for its wearable and that a number of new features will be coming soon.

Their report suggests that Apple wants to introduce blood pressure monitoring, allowing them to see how their blood pressure is trending over time. Apple is also expected to add new sleep tracking features to the Apple Watch Series 8 in 2022, including the ability to detect sleep patterns and apnea, better competing with the likes of Fitbit.

The company is also experimenting with new ways to tackle battery life for those who want to wear their watches overnight to track their sleep, with the firm looking at ways it can read data from sensors overnight, without significantly reducing battery life.

Apple is also reportedly looking at technology that could help detect diabetes, but it has ‘struggled’ with the process so far. We’d previously heard that Apple would introduce blood glucose monitoring to the new Apple Watch this year, but it seems this has now been scrapped.

Next year’s Apple Watch could also record the wearer’s temperature, detecting fevers and helping women find their optimal ovulation period.
