Apple planning to introduce an anti-stalking feature for AirTags

Apple Airtags

Apple’s upcoming AirTags will reportedly feature an anti-stalking feature.

The latest iOS 14.5 beta teases an Item Safety Features tab, where anti-stalking protection has been added to the company’s new Tile-like trackers.

Whilst AirTags will no doubt be very useful to everyday users, they also represent a new challenge – protecting users’ location data.

Apple has now added new code – first found in iOS 14.3 betas – to ensure data does not enter into the wrong hands, and so that consumers have total control over their devices.

Should the feature be turned on, a notification will be triggered if a user is carrying an AirTag that does not belong to them.

So, if an AirTag was planted in a phone or jean pocket, users will be alerted to “This item has been moving with you for a while. The owner can see its location. If you feel your safety is at risk due to this item, contact your local law enforcement. You may need the serial number of this item.”

There’s speculation that Apple will finally release AirTags later this month.
