Apple is working on a new iMac that will be called the iMac Pro, according to reports.
The Cupertino company will use the same M1 Pro and M1 Max chips that were added to the new MacBook Pro models and will use the Pro moniker to differentiate from the baseline models, which were already given the M1 treatment last eyar.
It’s thought that the new professional iMac will sport a 27-inch mini-LED display featuring ProMotion technology, though separate reports have suggested Apple could even offer the new model in two size options, including a 32-inch.
Apple will use darker bezels for the model and reduce the size of the bezels.
When it comes to the design of the device, it’s thought that Apple will use the 24-inch iMac and the Pro Display XDR as inspiration, and a separate report has also found that Apple could bring Face ID to the machine.
Although everything’s just a rumor at this stage, we’re led to believe that the new base model will come with 16GB memory and 512GB of storage, as well as an HDMI port, an SD card slot, and several USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, like the MacBook Pro. The machine will start at more than $2,000 and will launch in the first half of 2022, meaning we could get our hands on the machine in months.
