Apple has given us a sneak peek at the next generation of macOS, called Ventura.
Alongside iOS 16 and watchOS 9, Apple previewed the new operating system, which is designed to “takes the Mac experience to a whole new level”. One of the biggest new features announced at the event was Stage Manager, which lets users see all of the windows and projects they have open at any one time, and clearly categorize them into the right area for better productivity and a streamlined UI.
Continuity Camera is a new feature that lets Mac users use their iPhone as a webcam, unlocking new capabilities, and Handoff arrives on the Mac for the first time, allowing you to start a FaceTime call on one device and finish it on another.
Several macOS apps have also been given some love, with Safari offering Tab Groups to let friends book trips and shop for clothes together, whilst Mail offers advanced search options and the ability to schedule emails for a later time or date. It’s now also possible to edit or undo Messages from the Messages app, and Spotlight has been given a new design that’s better in keeping with iPadOS.
Apple has also made some improvements to gaming on macOS, and Weather and Clock apps come to the Mac for the first time.
