Apple pushing to expand workforce outside of Silicon Valley

Apple is reportedly ramping up its efforts to decentralize its business outside of Silicon Valley.

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the company wants to move into new areas as it has struggled to recruit and retain top talent inside of Silicon Valley due to the high cost of living and lack of affordable housing options for talented individuals. Moving away could help Apple access a new batch of top talent and use it to develop exciting new products and services.

Gurman says that the Cupertino company has been losing talent in the area, with engineers unable to “balance living expenses with other pursuits like college tuition for their children and long-term savings.”

What’s more, the company has to compete with other technology giants such as Netflix, Google and Amazon for talent in the same space, and the cost of operations is significantly higher than in other parts of the United States. As a result, Apple’s silicon boss Johny Srouji and the company’s services boss Eddy Cue are leading towards new areas to attract talent.

Johny Srouji reportedly leads new office openings in Florida, Massachusetts, Texas, Israel and Asia, and has since helped Apple expand into Germany, Oregon and San Diego.

Eddy Cue, on the other hand, has pushed Apple to open offices in Los Angeles and Nashville.
