Apple have recruited New Zealand-born DJ Zane Lowe, who is leaving the BBC Radio 1 after twelve years. The DJ has become well-known for championing new music and securing high-profile interviews with global music stars including Eminem, Jay-Z and Kanye West. Lowe has been recruited to work with Apple on a new music service. The exact details of his new role haven’t been revealed, but it’s thought that the broadcaster has been snapped up due to his music curation skills and will be working with Apple on their iTunes Radio service.
The 41-year old DJ and former MTV Europe presenter recently curated a re-scored version of cult 2011 film Drive and will move to the US with his family in early March after fronting his final Radio 1 show.
The DJ, who currently appears on Radio 1 four evenings a week, will be replaced by dance presenter Annie Mac, said: “I want to thank everyone at Radio 1 for their support and friendship. The station has allowed me to share incredible music with the country’s best music fans – I’ve loved every minute of it. Exciting times lie ahead.”
Lowe started his UK music career with a role at London’s Record and Tape Exchange before being recruited by MTV in the 1990s. He is renowned for his highly-enthusiastic, excitable style. iTunes Radio allows users to set up and customize their own personalized live stream of music.
