Apple Releases iOS 9.1 with New Emoji and Better Live Photos

Today, Apple has given iOS 9.1 its full public release, making it freely available for all compatible iOS devices. Many new emoji characters and tweaked Live Photos are the headline additions.

iOS 9.1 is the third update to iOS 9, following iOS 9.0.1 and iOS 9.0.2. However, as made clear by the point number, this is the first meaningful update – many people who make the step up are likely to especially appreciate the addition of over 150 emojis, including middle finger, champagne bottle, cheese wedge and other amusing or otherwise charming symbols.

Owners of the iPhone 6S or 6S Plus can now also make quicker and easier use of the Live Photos feature. During the capture of a Live Photo, the handset can now sense when it is being raised or lowered and resists needlessly recording these moments.

Of course, there’s a raft of other improvements brought by iOS 9.1, including new features and compatibility for the upcoming iPad Pro and fourth generation Apple TV, plus performance enhancements, bug fixes and security updates.
