With all the publicity about the launches of iOS 8.4 and Apple Music, it is too easy to overlook that, yesterday, Apple also released OS X 10.10.4 for Mac computers. This update comes with a wealth of bug fixes that users of the current Yosemite operating system are likely to appreciate.
An especially notable fix is one addressing problems caused by the “discoveryd” service. This service was responsible for handling DNS processes, but issues with it included peculiar tendencies to duplicate machine names and fail in resolving device names. discoveryd has been replaced with mDNSResponder in the new update.
Meanwhile, many processes that use Photos, including migrating iPhoto and Aperture libraries and importing Leica DNG files, have been made more reliable. Other fixes include those tackling Mail’s delay of outgoing messages and the common failure of external monitors to work.
OS X 10.10.4 is now available for download from the Mac App Store, and should take up no more than roughly 1 GB for current users of Yosemite.
