Apple reportedly “days away” from iPhone 12 launch, event announcement imminent

A lineup of five Apple iPhones is shown standing upright. The devices vary in color, with the first being navy blue, the second gold, the third silver, and the fourth black. The fifth iPhone 12, in black, displays a lit screen with the time 9:41 and the date Monday, September 21—perfect for an event announcement.

Apple is reportedly “days away” from announcing its new iPhones, suggesting we’ll know more about its upcoming October event in the coming days. That’s according to EE, a UK carrier that was joined by Eddy Cue during an internal presentation regarding 5G.

The Cupertino company is widely expected to announce a second special event for October, following the release of the new iPad Air and the sixth-generation Apple Watch during an event earlier this month.

Unlike previous years, the iPhone 12 range was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic impacting supply chains, though Apple is reportedly now ready to go.

An insider from the Netherlands has reportedly suggested that Apple will hold its next event on Tuesday, October 13 and then allow pre-orders from Friday, October 16.

There’s no real evidence on those dates just yet, but they do correlate to typical iPhone event schedules.

According to a report from MacRumors, UK carrier BT said in an internal presentation that we are “just days away from Apple’s next major launch, a 5G iPhone, which will be a huge boost for 5G.”

The spokesperson added that “teams in all parts of Consumer have been preparing all year to win this launch, and be Europe’s number one partner for Apple.”

Apple’s Eddy Cue appeared during the internal presentation, congratulating UK carrier EE on becoming the first to offer a smartphone package that bundles Apple services. He did not mention whether the new iPhone would feature 5G technology, but it’s all-but-confirmed at this point that the company will add 5G antenna to all four new iPhone 12 smartphones.
