Apple has reportedly wrapped up development work on iOS 16.
The company is widely expected to release the software in the coming weeks alongside the iPhone 14 range, and now attention has reportedly turned to preparing iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura ready for release in October.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has suggested that the software is now complete and that Apple will add no major features or tweaks before it’s released to the public and installed on iPhone 14 devices. This also means that developers now have the final iOS 16 beta in their hands and can get a feel for how it will work.
iOS 16 and watchOS 9 will be released in the coming weeks alongside the iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8, and for the first time this year, Apple is holding back the release of iPadOS 16 to add further refinements. macOS Ventura will also be released in October as per the new standard of software updates.
“The iOS 16.0 update, which Apple engineers finished work on this past week, is due to launch in September alongside watchOS 9,” Gurman said in his latest newsletter. “Those updates will correspond with the new hardware. The macOS Ventura and iPadOS upgrades, on the other hand, are now scheduled for October (after Stage Manager-related delays to the iPad software) to match the new hardware lineup.”
First announced this June at WWDC 2022, iOS 16 adds a number of new features including a stunning new Lock Screen overhaul, changes to iMessage, improvements to the iCloud Shared Photo Library, and more.
It has been rumored that Apple will host its next event on September 7, where it will premiere the new iPhone and announce the official iOS 16 release date, likely to be the same day or the following day.
