Apple reportedly launching replacement program for Apple Watch Series 1 and Series 0 repairs

A sleek black Apple Watch displaying a calendar notification reads "No more events today." The time shown is 16:32, and it also features weather information at 18°C, along with times for SF at 08:32 and NY at 11:32. Opt into the replacement program for seamless repairs if needed.

If you’re an owner of a first-generation Apple Watch or Series 1 model that’s in need of repair, you may be in luck. Yesterday, a report alleged that Apple are giving the go ahead for its repair facilities to provide hardware upgrades to owners of said faulty devices. However, the initiative has caused a temporary parts shortage.

The dossier distributed to Apple Authorized Service Providers claimed that repair parts for the Series 1 and 42mm Apple Watch Series 0 are strained.

Apple are said to be improvising by allowing its service providers to offer those who qualify for the initial repair initiative, a 42mm Apple Watch Series 2 as replacement. The program is set for launch in February and will run till April. Whilst locations are yet to be confirmed, it’s thought that repairs will be conducted at Genius Bars.

Whether or not the offer applies to all 42mm Apple Watch Series 0 and Series 1 styles is currently unclear, however, the report fails to clarify which parts are affected by the shortage.

The wearable Apple device first launched in 2015 whilst the Series 1 was released alongside the Series 2 in 2016. This is not the first time Apple have coined a replacement program relating to the Apple Watch but 2017, they offered a similar initiative to users of the aluminium-clad versions of the original wearable device.
