Apple is reportedly planning to launch a multi-user account version of its Apple Card, according to iOS 14.5 beta code and as first revealed by 9to5Mac.
The company has been testing the release of the next version of its operating system, and developers have spotted a number of new features, including the introduction of Apple Card Family, which would presumably mean it can introduce multi-user accounts for the first time.
Codenamed “Madison,” Apple Card Family will allow users to share the same Apple Card via Apple’s iCloud Family Sharing method, meaning that the whole family can make purchases from one card and enjoy the benefits of discounted products and cashback on purchases.
The idea is that an Apple Card owner, or head of household, can allow other family members to use their card and track their spending inside of the Wallet app. Daily Cash will be extended to other family members, which could encourage households to make the switch.
“Share your Apple Card with eligible friends and family in your family group. Build credit together, track spending, and receive Daily Cash,” iOS 14.5 code reveals.
Although we don’t know the ins and outs of the new feature, it’s believed that those aged 13 and above can be introduced as an Apple Card Family member, and limits can be imposed onto individual users to stop them from spending more than they’re allowed to, which could be a good way of offering youngsters pocket money or an allowance to buy groceries.
