Apple is said to be testing larger iMac models, including a version with a roughly 32-inch display, according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. Gurman stated in his latest Power On newsletter that these iMacs are still in the early stages of development, and therefore, he doesn’t anticipate their release until late 2024 or possibly sometime in 2025.

Previously, Gurman reported that Apple was developing a larger iMac with a display exceeding 30 inches. He has now clarified that the display would be approximately the same size as Apple’s high-end Pro Display XDR monitor, which measures 32 inches. The Pro Display XDR, released in December 2019, offers 6K resolution for Retina-quality content and starts at $4,999.

Over the last few years, Apple discontinued the Intel-based 27-inch iMac and iMac Pro, and has not yet introduced a larger iMac model with an Apple silicon chip to replace them. Instead, Apple now offers the 27-inch Studio Display, which can be connected to a Mac Studio or another Apple silicon-based Mac, but this is not an all-in-one solution like the iMac.

Currently, the 24-inch iMac is the only all-in-one computer on offer from Apple. The present model, powered by the M1 chip, was launched in April 2021, and Gurman anticipates an updated model with a faster M3 chip to be available by early next year.

All of Apple’s current silicon chips are produced using TSMC’s 5nm process. In contrast, the M3 chip is expected to utilize a 3nm process, leading to significant enhancements in performance and power efficiency.
