Apple Reportedly Working on 4-Inch ‘iPhone 7C’ for 2016

For weeks, many media outlets, including Apple Magazine, have reported evidence of an upcoming new 4-inch iPhone. Now, fresh evidence has emerged that, at least next year, there will indeed be one – to be more exact, a 4-inch version of the iPhone 7.

A report from the Chinese language Economic Daily News says that display manufacturer AU Optronics has agreed a deal with Apple to make 4-inch screens for what the report refers to as an ‘iPhone 7C’. It adds that AU Optronics will start shipping the screens in 2016’s first quarter, which has led BGR News to hint that the iPhone 7C could be released alongside the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus later that year.

The story’s credibility is boosted by a report by DIGITIMES back in April that, citing TechNews, AU Optronics was expected to supply 4-inch panels for the iPhone, but that, citing the Taiwan-based Apple Daily and Economic Daily News, the company’s role in Apple’s supply chain was unlikely to start until 2016.
