Apple reportedly working on successor to failed AirPower product

Reports suggest the Apple AirPower is expected imminently. A wireless charging pad charges three Apple devices: an iPhone displaying a battery status screen, an Apple Watch showing a 63% charge, and AirPods in an open charging case. A single charging cable is connected to the pad.

Apple is reportedly still planning to launch an AirPower-style device.

The Cupertino company has been working on a single charging pad that could be used to charge an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods at the same time. Apple struggled when it announced AirPower and, for the first time in the company’s history, didn’t release it.

However, a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that the company is still working on a charging pad that can recharge multiple Apple devices at the same time. Rather than relying on Qi or MagSafe, Apple wants to offer power without the hardware being close to the charger at all, offering a true wireless charging technology.

The company is also reportedly working on a new system that could allow for reverse wireless charging, so all of Apple’s devices could charge each other. For instance, an iPad could charge a nearby iPhone and AirPods case.

Apple was recently granted a patent for a “wireless power system with device movement detection” and it featured an unfinished prototype of the AirPower device.
