As leaked yesterday, Apple is preparing to release a new app, called simply TV, that will make searching through films and TV shows across multiple apps easy on the Apple TV and iOS devices.
Apple showed off the new TV app at its event in Cupertino today. The app’s key features include Watch Now, where the user can see their collection of available content from iTunes and apps, and Up Next, which presents content in an order that is especially likely to be convenient to the viewer.
Meanwhile, the Recommended feature lets users explore a vast choice of curated and trending movies and shows, and Library gives viewers access to content that they have bought or rented on iTunes. Another feature, Store, intends to help the user find new content on other services that they have not yet made use of.
The TV app can also stay in sync across Apple TV, iPhone and iPad, allowing users to start watching on one device and, if they have to stop at any point, later pick up where they left off on another device.
In a press release, Apple states that the TV app will arrive as a free software update for the fourth generation Apple TV, iPhone and iPad in the US this December. It remains unclear when the app will become available in territories outside the US.
