Apple has reversed the controversial changes it had made to Safari on macOS.
With the full version of macOS Monterey set to be released on Monday, the company has made a significant change to Safari, reverting the design of the new tab it introduced earlier in the year with the classic design. However, users can continue to choose the new look if they prefer.
Apple announced Safari 15 at this year’s WWDC, introducing a new look that unified the tab menu with the address bar. The company added an option for users to separate their tabs following widespread criticism during the early beta build, but this still wasn’t the same as the previous Safari look and professionals were concerned that it could reduce to more people switching to Chrome.
Now, Apple is reverting the option and users can enjoy the same classic design that they’re used to. Users can still access the new more unified interface by pressing the Compact option in the Safari settings menu, though users won’t be immediately subjected to this change when they upgrade.
