Apple Said to be Working on New Display with Integrated GPU

Though yesterday saw Apple announce the discontinuation of its Mac-compatible external Thunderbolt Display, which had first launched in 2011, it looks like a successor might be in the works.

Earlier today, BuzzFeed’s John Paczkowski, a reliable source of details about future Apple announcements, tweeted – citing unspecified sources – that Apple is developing a “next-gen display” which will come with an “integrated GPU”.

This kind of built-in graphics card would, in theory, ensure the display’s compatibility with almost any Mac, as the display could take on heavy duty work typically conducted by the computer itself. Paczkowski provides no further details about the display, but a 5K Retina resolution could be expected.

It is also unclear when Apple would announce the product, though we reckon that it could happen at the same time as the official unveil of the upcoming, significantly redesigned new MacBook Pro models.
