Apple Said to be Working on New Keyboard Accessory for iPad

Two separate reports today claim that Apple is working on a new keyboard accessory for the iPad. However, both reports are sketchy in detail, leaving the precise nature of the keyboard a mystery.

In a lengthy feature article about what products Apple looks set to reveal at its media event at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium on Wednesday, The New York Times claims that Apple “is putting the finishing touches on a revamped iPad keyboard that may be available by the end of the year.”

The article ventures no further on the subject; however, another major feature article also focusing on what Apple is planning to unveil on September 9, this one from 9to5Mac, hints at potential keyboard peripherals for the 12.9-inch “iPad Pro”. After mentioning the slate’s support for Bluetooth keyboards, the news site’s Mark Gurman says that Apple is apparently preparing its own keyboard accessory.

Though all iPads come with virtual on-screen keyboards for textual input, many people favor using one of the many iPad-compatible larger physical keyboards for extended periods of typing. Such an accessory made by Apple could closely resemble its above pictured Wireless Keyboard for Mac.
