Apple Said to Have Secret Berlin Lab Working on New Vehicles

A new report out of Germany claims that Apple is running a secret lab in Berlin, where about 15 to 20 “top-class” employees are working to imagine and realize futuristic vehicles.

This report, originally from Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and paraphrased into English by AppleInsider, describes these workers as young professionals with varying backgrounds in engineering, hardware, software and sales.

Though also said to be from Germany’s well-regarded automotive industry, these workers are labeled “progressive thinkers” previously held back by more conservative-minded managers at conventional car companies. These workers are now apparently exploring ideas for future vehicles, as well as looking into potential manufacturing partnerships, sales concerns and other issues.

The report further claims that Apple’s first car – previously said to be codenamed Project Titan – will be electric, but not self-driving, due to the overly early development of this technology. For final manufacturing, Apple will supposedly contract with Magna Steyr’s Austrian arm.
