Apple has shown signs of becoming a producer of original media content, with the launch of its Beats 1 radio station – and, according to a new report, TV content could be next on the cards.
The report appears on The Street and claims that Apple is seeking to produce original TV shows that would be exclusively available through its iTunes media library. Apparently, according to sources identified only as “two people with knowledge of the overtures”, Apple embarked on talks with Hollywood creatives late last year, but has not yet signed any agreements.
Apple is said to have the idea of sealing deals ahead of September, when it could potentially announce exclusive TV content at the same event where it would unveil the iPhone 7. It’s easy to see Apple licensing hit shows in the same manner as Netflix – which, incidentally, provides content on the latest Apple TV, and is featured in the below screen commercial that Apple recently revealed for the set-top box.
