Apple & Suppliers Boost Renewable Energy, Targeting Decarbonization by 2030 Apple's manufacturing partners now support over 13 gigawatts of renewable electricity worldwide, with over 250 global partners committing to use renewable energy for all Apple production.

Apple Renewable Energy

Apple has announced that its manufacturing partners are now supporting more than 13 gigawatts of renewable electricity around the world, marking a 30 percent increase in the past year. Over 250 suppliers across 28 countries have committed to using renewable energy for all Apple production by 2030. These commitments represent over 85 percent of Apple’s direct manufacturing spend and more than 20 gigawatts in total.

Already carbon-neutral for its global corporate emissions, Apple is utilizing innovative tools to progress towards its ambitious 2030 goal of being carbon-neutral for every product. This includes $4.7 billion in Green Bonds, which finance the expansion of clean energy solutions and emissions reductions worldwide. Apple has shared details of its 2022 Green Bond spend, which includes investments in large-scale solar, low-carbon design, energy efficiency, and carbon removal.

In the past year, over 40 manufacturing partners have joined Apple’s Supplier Clean Energy Program. Apple has urged its suppliers to decarbonize all Apple-related operations, including sourcing 100 percent renewable electricity. The company works closely with suppliers to identify and implement clean energy and carbon reduction solutions, providing free learning resources and live training through its Clean Energy Academy.

Apple’s Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, Lisa Jackson, highlighted the rapid progress being made toward the company’s 2030 carbon neutrality goal. The Supplier Clean Energy Program has enabled the expansion of renewable electricity capacity worldwide. Since 2019, operational renewable energy across Apple’s global supply chain has increased fivefold, totaling 13.7 gigawatts.

This led to the avoidance of 17.4 million metric tons of carbon emissions last year, equivalent to removing nearly 3.8 million cars from the road.
