Apple has pledged its support to the Malala Fund which helps expand the educational opportunities of girls in developing countries. The organization is led by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai and by supporting the fund Apple wants also help improve the lives of girls across the globe. It was following an attempted assassination by the Taliban that Malala became know and she has since dedicated herself to making a difference. Malala has received unwavering support throughout and now with the support of Apple, she hopes to tackle the problem even further.
The fund, which Malala founded with her father in 2013, aims to ensure all girls have access to safe and free education for 12 years. Apple hopes their support will double the number of grants the Gulmakai Network provides and they hope to also make the funding available in India and Latin America.
Apple CEO Tim Cook will be taking a seat on the Malala Fund leadership council. Apple will be assisting with technology, research and curriculum in order to help the fund grow.
Malala explained just how much difference this partnership could make to so many girls’ lives:
“My dream is for every girl to choose her own future,” said Malala Yousafzai. “Through both their innovations and philanthropy, Apple has helped educate and empower people around the world. I am grateful that Apple knows the value of investing in girls and is joining Malala Fund in the fight to ensure all girls can learn and lead without fear.”
Tim Cook spoke similarly of the partnership:
“We believe that education is a great equalizing force, and we share Malala Fund’s commitment to give every girl an opportunity to go to school,” said Tim Cook. “Malala is a courageous advocate for equality. She’s one of the most inspiring figures of our time, and we are honored to help her extend the important work she is doing to empower girls around the world.”
