Apple is testing a new work from home program for its Apple Store employees.
Known as Retail Flex, the new scheme will allow employees to work from their store location some weeks and remotely other weeks. As first reported by Bloomberg, those who were working from home would be responsible for online sales, customer service, and offering technical support over the phone to customers in their region.
Depending on the demand in stores versus online shopping in a particular period, employees would be able to pick and choose their shifts. For instance, during the busier Christmas period, staffers may be asked to work in-store more, but could choose to take some work-from-home time during shopping events like Black Friday, which Apple doesn’t participate in but does offer some online incentives for those considering a new device.
The pilot program will last at least six months, and arrangements could be ramped up between September and December during the busiest period of the year for the Cupertino company.
Employees were encouraged to work remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it appears that Retail Flex is an extension of this policy. Employees will be offered $100 towards office equipment and home internet.
