Apple threatens leakers in China with legal action

Apple has sent well-known leakers letters, demanding that they stop sharing information on future products.

The company has warned of legal action in China if leakers Kang and Duan Rui do not stop sharing information on social media, which has led to huge scoops such as iPhone 12 and the M1 Mac range being leaked early.

Social media posts on Chinese social network Weibo revealed details of Apple’s warning letter, demanding that leakers cannot disclose information about upcoming products as Apple doesn’t want to “mislead potential customers” or offer competitors an advantage. The letter also asks them to stop sharing images of future Apple products and says that they cannot refer to posts as “dreams” or “riddles” as they’re still considered to be leaks.

As a result of the news, Kang has confirmed he will no longer “post riddles and dreams in the future,” and has warned other leakers and bloggers that the company is now auditing posts and will threaten with legal action.

We haven’t seen the letter itself; instead, we’ve just heard translated snippets, but we know that it has been sent to all major leakers in China. Kang, Duan Rui, and L0vetodream are three of the most well-known sources.

Are you pleased to hear this, or are you disappointed at the prospect of fewer leaks? Let us know and check back soon for more.
