Apple looks set to make some significant changes to its MacBook Pro family in 2021, introducing a number of long-requested features and removing the controversial touch bar which has been in place since 2016, as well as a new design and the return of MagSafe.
According to reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has previously revealed plenty of features on upcoming Apple products, has revealed that the company is working on two new models in both 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, which will feature a flat-edged design that looks similar to the iPhone 12.
There’ll be no curves like the current MacBook Pro range, which means it represents perhaps the biggest design shift on the Mac in more than a decade.
The company will also remove the controversial OLED Touch Bar, and instead add physical function keys back to the keyboard, which is good news for many who prefer the tactility.
MagSafe will also return to the MacBook Pro range in a new form, perhaps using USB-C, and the new models will come with additional ports, another bugbear amongst professional users who had to depend on adapters and extensions to use their machine in the workplace.
Perhaps expectedly, Apple will remove the Intel CPU option from its store, and instead only sell the Macs with an M1 chip, though whether it’ll be an upgraded M1 chip is unknown.
Kuo also revealed that we’ll see the new MacBook Pro models in the third quarter of this year, which falls in line with the company’s roadmap of upgrading its entire Mac range before 2022 – two years on from the launch of the M1 chip, which has revolutionized the Mac range.
