Apple to introduce wireless and reverse charging to next iPad Pro

Apple is reportedly working on a new iPad Pro that offers both wireless and reverse charging.

According to a report from Bloomberg, the company has been testing a new glass back instead of its usual aluminum enclosure to offer wireless charging capabilities, which would bring the iPad closer to the iPhone and potentially allow users to charge their devices from their desks.

It’ll be interesting to see exactly how wireless charging could work on an iPad, as they’re much larger than an iPhone and would require significantly more charging mechanisms under the hood. MagSafe, however, could be an alternative, allowing users to charge from a specific place on their iPad, such as the center where the Apple logo is etched onto the iPad’s rear design.

What’s particularly interesting to note about this latest report is that the company is also working on reverse wireless charging for the first time. It had previously been rumored that Apple would bring reverse wireless charging to the iPhone back in 2019, but that did not come to fruition. Bringing bilateral charging to the iPad makes more sense, as users could charge their iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watches from their iPad, making it the ultimate on-the-go accessory.
