Apple to kick off production on Apple VR headset in March

Apple is reportedly readying the release of its first AR/VR headset.

The company has selected Pegatron as the exclusive partner for final assembly. The headset is currently in its manufacturing validation process before mass production kicks off in March 2023, ahead of a public unveiling of the product in April 2023.

That’s according to DigiTimes, which has a proven track record for Apple news.

Production on the new device will be “minimal” according to the report, as it will have a high price tag and will serve as an introduction to the AR/VR market.

It’s believed that Apple wants to target commercial markets with the launch of the first headset, selling around 2.5 million units in total. The company is widely expected to announce the first augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality headset and then release a more affordable, consumer-friendly model the following year.

This news differs slightly from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s previous report; he argues that Apple will unveil the new headset in January 2023 before it’s released the following month, allowing consumers and the press to hype up the launch ahead of its release.
