Apple will reportedly release its first 5G-capable iPad Pro in the fall of this year.

According to the sometimes reliable DigiTimes, Apple is reportedly preparing to release four new iPhones in September, all equipped with 5G connectivity, and follow those up with an iPad Pro in the Fall of this year, introducing 5G technology and an Apple-powered A14 chip.

The article revealed more information on the new 5nm-based A14 chips – expected to be called A14X for the iPad Pro. What’s more, the new iPad Pro will offer a combination of mmWave and sub-6GHz technology, with Snapdragon X55 modems from Qualcomm.

DigiTimes has said that both the iPhone and iPad models will be revealed in September, though that would be an unusual move for Apple.

The company usually reveals its latest iPhones as a Special Event in September alongside Apple Watches and software release dates, and then follows up with iPads, Macs, and other products in October or November.

“Based on its 5G product roadmaps, Apple is expected to launch new iOS devices, including iPhones and iPads, incorporating both sub-6GHz and mmWave specs probably in September, which will significantly drive up demand for 5nm A14, “ DigiTimes said.

“A14 can be applied to diverse iOS mobile devices for different 5G frequency bands as long as corresponding modem chips and AiP modules are adopted. Qualcomm will provide 5G Snapdragon X55 modem chipsets for new iPhone devices in 2020.”

“Win Semi reportedly will be the sole fabricator of VCSEL components for ToF (time of flight) AR and depth-of-field (DoF) photography applications [used in the new iPad Pro models], as its US IDM clients have also captured orders from Apple.”

“The ToF camera modules are expected to be incorporated into 5G iPhones and iPads to be released in the second half of 2020,” the DigiTimes report concluded.
