Apple will launch a second generation headset in the first half of 2025, according to a new report.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that the company will launch a new version of its headset with a high-end construction as well as a more affordable option, likely a SE-style successor to the original headset.
Writing in a new Medium blog, Kuo said: “The second-generation Apple AR/MR may have high-end and more-affordable models, which will launch in 1H25, and component suppliers will start shipping in 2H24.
“Apple AR/MR shipments may reach 10 million units as soon as 2025 or 2026, thanks to the second-generation Apple AR/MR product segmentation strategy and ecosystem.”
“The first-generation Apple AR/MR Pancake lens suppliers are Genius (main supplier) and Young Optics (second supplier). GIS is the Pancake lens lamination supplier. The above suppliers are expected to be in the second-generation supply chain.”
It’s thought that Apple will unveil its new product in January 2023 at a special event, showing off the headset that’s likely to cost more than $3,000. From then, Apple will expand into new eras to help sell more devices.
