Apple plans to reintroduce SD card readers and HDMI ports into its MacBook Pros this year.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, who is a reliable Apple analyst and regularly correctly predicts upcoming changes and releases, suggests that at least two high-end MacBook Pro models that will launch this year, and feature a redesign, will come with those ports as standard.

Kuo previously revealed that Apple was working on an overhaul of the MacBook Pro range, introducing a new design that would set the device into the future. Alongside this, Apple is planning to add options for even more external device connectivity, giving professional users the choice of how many ports they have on their device – this will come at an additional cost.

In recent years, Apple has come under intense scrutiny from professional users over the number of ports it includes on its devices, and recent MacBook Pro models featured USB-C ports exclusively. Introducing support for more well-known platforms will be very welcomed.

According to Kuo’s insider knowledge, Genesys Logic is working on the SD card reader for the new MacBook Pro range, and could work on other components in Apple’s product line in the years ahead.

Last month, Kuo revealed that Apple was working on a new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with mini LED display, featuring a design similar to the iPad Pro and iPhone 12. Apple is also planning to reintroduce MagSafe charging to the Mac in some form, and function buttons will return.
