Apple will release its first foldable tablet by 2024, according to Samsung.
The tech maker has become a market leader in foldable technology recently, launching several high-profile foldable smartphones to mixed success. Now, Samsung believes that Apple will follow its lead and launch its foldable technology before 2024.
According to The Elec, Samsung’s mobile division met with suppliers to discuss the mobile market, and representatives from the South Korean tech giant said that Apple would announce a foldable device within the next two years, likely because they have insider knowledge of future Apple tech.
What’s intriguing, however, is that Samsung believes it won’t be a foldable iPhone: it would be a tablet or laptop. CCS Insight has backed up these claims, suggesting that Apple would not want to take the risk of launching a foldable iPhone and would instead experiment with foldable technology in another capacity, such as in an iPad. Such a device would likely cost around $2,500.
Samsung, which has sold around 10 million foldable phones in 2021, says it expects the foldables market to grow by 80% by 2025. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip dominate the market, but some other foldables players offer more affordable foldable technology.
