Apple to Release Hardbound Book of Years of Product Designs

20 years of Apple product designs have been captured in a new hardbound photo book, Designed by Apple in California, that the company has just announced and will release tomorrow.

The book, dedicated to the memory of former Apple CEO Steve Jobs, shows 450 photographs of Apple products ranging from 1998’s iMac to 2015’s Apple Pencil. The images, shot by photographer Andrew Zuckerman, show the design process as well as the final products.

In a press release, Jony Ive, Apple’s chief design officer, has enthused that the archive “is intended to be a gentle gathering of many of the products the team has designed over the years. We hope it brings some understanding to how and why they exist, while serving as a resource for students of all design disciplines.”

Ive has also written the book’s foreword, which explains: “While this is a design book, it is not about the design team, the creative process or product development. It is an objective representation of our work that, ironically, describes who we are. It describes how we work, our values, our preoccupations and our goals.”

Designed by Apple in California will be available in “small” and “large” sizes, priced respectively at $199 and $299 in the United States. In that country and Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the United Kingdom, the book will be available exclusively from Apple’s website and select Apple retail stores.
