Apple will release a second-generation iPhone SE in the first quarter of 2020.

According to the most recent research report from reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will lift the lid on an iPhone SE 2 in the first quarter of next year, at just $399.

The company’s new low-cost smartphone to appease price-conscious consumers is widely expected to feature a similar design to the iPhone 8 with bumped-up specs to bring it in line with today’s modern requirements for apps and everyday productivity.

Indeed, the iPhone SE 2 will feature an A13 CPU – the same as what’s currently included in the iPhone 11, as well as 3GB LPDDR4X. Apple will ship the model in 64GB and 128GB storage options and it will be available in Space Gray, Silver, and Red, without 3D Touch.

Apple is expecting that the new iPhone SE will be a popular upgrade option for those moving on from the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S, offering a truly affordable alternative to the iPhone 11.

Will the new iPhone be called the iPhone SE 2?

What we do know for certain, however, is that the SE branding is almost certainly a thing of the past – Apple will introduce the SE 2 under a new moniker, perhaps in line with the iPhone 11.

Google, for example, dropped its $399 low-cost smartphone under the Google Pixel 3a branding, despite being a very different smartphone than the Pixel 3, so we expect something similar to keep it in line with Apple’s latest marketing push and drive new custom.
