Apple is reportedly readying the release of a new M2-powered MacBook Air in 2022.
An insider Dylan on Twitter (who uses the handle @dylandkt) has shared some details on what the new M2 Apple Silicon will be like. His source suggests that the M2 will rear its head in the second half of next year, whilst an M1X SoC will be released with new MacBook Pro models this year. Although the M1X will extend the power and performance of the current M1 chip, the M2 is a second-generation chip and will offer even more advanced performance.
It’s thought that Apple is modelling its M2 chip on the A15 processor which has been linked to the next-generation iPhone, so it won’t offer the same level of performance as the M1X, and instead offer a notable improvement to the M1 chip. It’s reportedly codenamed Staten.
The new M2 chip will reportedly offer 9-core and 10-core GPU options, and debut in the new MacBook Air which will be overhauled to follow in the footsteps of the 2021 iMac range with new colors, the return of MagSafe, and white bezels for the first time. It’s likely that Apple will debut the device in blue, green, pink, silver, yellow, orange, and purple color options.
